Xunzi, also known as Xun Kuang, was a Chinese Confucian philosopher who stressed education, deliberate practice, ritual, and the shaping of character. He argued that goodness is an achievement built through learning rather than an effortless gift of nature.

Two of his most famous students, Han Feizi and Li Si, became associated with Legalism — a school whose hard political methods diverged sharply from their teacher’s Confucian aims.
