William Wordsworth was an English Romantic poet who found moral and imaginative power in memory, childhood, ordinary speech, and the natural world. His collaboration with Samuel Taylor Coleridge on Lyrical Ballads helped transform English poetry.

A LESSER-KNOWN DETAIL

He became Poet Laureate at seventy-three and accepted only after being assured that the post required no official poems. He never wrote a formal laureate verse.
